Fontana Formiello Organic Fusilli received a 1-Star rating at the 2024 Great Taste Awards.
Fusilli is a traditional pasta variety from Campania in Southern Italy, known for its long, helical shape. Made from 100% Italian wheat, this pasta is produced in small batches, extruded through bronze dies, and slow-dried at low temperatures for 42 hours to preserve its flavour and natural qualities.
Traditionally paired with rich ragouts, particularly lamb or pork, fusilli also shines with vegetable-based sauces and a generous sprinkle of grated pecorino cheese.
Judges described the pasta as:“plump, well spiralised and would hold any sauce with ease. There is a good chew to the pasta and an understated nuttiness. A well made pasta.” Judges also found the Fusilli “attractive, with deep grooves that would be perfect for coating with a sauce. It has a light, pale colour and a gentle, sound flavour.”
Organic Fusilli is part of Fontana Formiello’s regional artisanal pasta range, which also includes fregula sarda, trofie liguri, orecchiette pugliesi, spaghetti, penne, and paccheri napoletani.
Good to know: Perfectly cooked pasta is al dente, an Italian term meaning “to the tooth.” This is when pasta is cooked through, yet still firm enough to offer some resistance to your bite.
