Good to know: Black rice, also called “forbidden rice,” had its origin in China. It was exclusively reserved for the Emperor and his court. Nero is a variety that shares this rich history. During the 1990s, breeders crossed an Asian black rice variety with Italian Padano rice, resulting in the creation of Nero.
